In 1992, he founded the Isha Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to spiritual growth, yoga, education, and social outreach. He teaches ancient yogic sciences in a modern, practical way, emphasizing inner well-being, self-awareness, and balance, rather than religion or belief systems. One of his most popular programs is Inner Engineering, which focuses on mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical health.Sadhguru is also known for his work beyond spirituality, including:
Environmental initiatives like Save Soil and river rejuvenation projects
Education through Isha schools
Speaking at global forums such as the UN, World Economic Forum, and major universities
He has written several best-selling books and is widely followed worldwide for his talks on life, leadership, health, and consciousness.
Sadhguru, born Jaggi Vasudev on September 3, 1957, grew up in Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka, India. His father was a doctor with the Indian Railways, which meant the family moved often. This exposed him to different cultures and environments from a young age.
As a child, he was known to be independent, curious, and rebellious, with a deep love for nature and adventure. He spent a lot of time in forests, hills, and wildlife areas, which he later said shaped his connection with life and awareness.
He studied at Demonstration School, Mysuru, and later earned a degree in English literature from the University of Mysore. After college, he started a poultry farm, which became quite successful and gave him financial independence at a young age.
In his mid-20s, he had a powerful spiritual experience while sitting on Chamundi Hill in Mysuru. He often describes this moment as one where his sense of individuality dissolved, which became a turning point in his life and eventually led him to share yogic practices with others.
Sadhguru completed his schooling in Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka.
He later earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Mysore.
Although his academic path was conventional, he has often said that most of his learning came from life experiences, travel, nature, and inner exploration rather than formal education. After college, instead of pursuing a typical career, he became an entrepreneur (running a poultry farm) before turning fully toward spirituality.
